Pastor’s Corner 10-12-2025

Hello church friends!

I am on my way back from the AAACE (www.aaace.org) conference where I presented on decolonizing organizational spirituality. I have been reflecting through the week on our New Testament reading for this Sunday (2 Tim 2:8-15), where the author describes what it means to live in Christ. It is clearly not about one's earthly circumstances (2 Tim 2:9). Living in Christ involves dying to some of what gives worldly power (2 Tim 2:11). Those who have died in Christ and been raised with Him don't argue over unimportant things (2 Tim 2:14) but instead are focused on their spiritual life and common mission (2 Tim 2:15).

This week we also learned that our Christian community lost someone who embodied 2 Timothy. Paul Swanson, our former pastor and bishop died after fighting cancer alongside his wife. He died in the presence of family and friends. For many, he was a friend and mentor who brought people into the Church and fostered a sincere faith. Everyone felt welcome and at home around him. Pr. Swanson was an expert at not arguing about unimportant trifles (2 Tim 2:14). Many of you embody his spirit.

We will stay in touch about any public memorial services and encourage you to keep the Swanson family in your hearts and prayers through this transition. Blessings to you all!

Faithfully,

Pr. Josh
